Services and Conditions

What can individual therapy help with?

Individual therapy can help with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, low self-esteem, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, burnout, anger, and personal growth. Sessions are one-on-one and tailored to your goals.

Do you provide family and couples counseling?

Yes. Family and couples counseling can help improve communication, rebuild trust, reduce conflict, support parenting concerns, and strengthen relationship patterns. Sessions are guided by a licensed clinician in a balanced, respectful environment.

Do you offer group therapy?

Yes. Group therapy gives clients a supportive space to learn skills, share experiences, and connect with others facing similar challenges. Group availability may vary, and a screening may be needed to make sure the group is a good clinical fit.

Do you provide substance use and addiction treatment?

Yes. We provide substance use and addiction counseling for clients working on recovery, relapse prevention, harm reduction, coping skills, triggers, and co-occurring mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress.

Can therapy help with anger management?

Yes. Anger management therapy can help you understand triggers, recognize early warning signs, manage reactions, communicate more effectively, and build healthier emotional responses.

Do you offer trauma-informed therapy or EMDR?

Yes. We provide trauma-informed therapy and may offer EMDR when clinically appropriate. Trauma treatment focuses on safety, stabilization, coping skills, emotional regulation, and healing at a pace that respects your readiness.

Do you work with children and teenagers?

Yes. Youth and adolescent services support children, teens, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, school stress, behavior concerns, trauma, bullying, family changes, emotional regulation, and peer or identity-related concerns.

What are clinical assessments and evaluations?

Clinical assessments and evaluations help identify symptoms, treatment needs, strengths, risks, and recommendations for care. They may support treatment planning, referrals, school or family concerns, substance use needs, or next steps in mental health care.

Therapy Process

What approaches do your therapists use?

Treatment may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), DBT-informed skills, mindfulness-based strategies, solution-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention planning, and relational or family systems work.

Will I be matched with a therapist?

Yes. We consider your needs, goals, location, service type, availability, insurance, and clinical fit when matching you with a therapist. If a different provider or level of care is needed, we will discuss appropriate next steps.

How often will I attend sessions?

Many clients begin with weekly sessions. Your therapist may recommend a different schedule depending on your symptoms, goals, availability, and progress.

Can I combine different services?

In some cases, yes. For example, a client may attend individual therapy while also participating in group therapy, or a family may receive parent support while a teen attends individual sessions. Your care plan will depend on your needs and clinical fit.

Will therapy feel uncomfortable?

Therapy can bring up difficult emotions, but your therapist will work with you at a manageable pace. The goal is to create a supportive space where you can be honest, learn skills, and move toward meaningful change without feeling rushed.

What if I am not sure therapy is working?

Tell your therapist. Therapy should include regular conversations about your progress, goals, and what feels helpful or unhelpful. Your therapist can adjust the treatment plan, session focus, or approach when needed.

Telehealth and Locations

Do you offer telehealth therapy?

Yes. We offer secure telehealth services when clinically appropriate and when the client is located in a state where the clinician is licensed to practice.

What states do you serve?

The website states that Working Towards a Brighter Future, Inc. serves clients across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Texas through in-person care and telehealth, depending on clinician availability, licensure, and clinical fit.

Where is the in-person office located?

The office address listed on the website is 1585 Springfield Avenue, Suite 2, Maplewood, NJ 07040.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Telehealth can be effective for many clients and concerns. The best fit depends on your needs, privacy at home, safety, symptoms, age, technology access, and treatment goals. Your therapist can help determine whether telehealth is appropriate.

Can children or teens do telehealth?

Sometimes. Telehealth may be appropriate for some adolescents and families, but it depends on the young person’s age, attention, privacy, safety, and clinical needs.

Appointments, Insurance, and Payment

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can request an appointment through the website contact form or contact the office directly. The website lists ssmith@towardsabrighterfuture.com and 347-972-5221 as contact options.

What information should I provide when requesting care?

Helpful information includes your name, phone number, email address, preferred service, location/state, insurance plan if you want to use insurance, availability, and a brief note about what support you are seeking.

Do you accept insurance?

The website notes that insurance may be accepted and that clients should contact the office to discuss coverage. Service pages also reference major plans such as Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Coverage depends on your plan, state, provider, diagnosis, and service type.

Can you check my insurance benefits before I start?

Yes. Our team can help verify insurance benefits and explain estimated copays, deductibles, coverage limits, and out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment when possible.

Is life coaching covered by insurance?

Life coaching is generally not covered by health insurance because it is not clinical mental health treatment. If you are seeking therapy for a mental health or substance use concern, our team can help you explore clinical services and insurance options.
